Course overview

Become a PADI Divemaster on the Perhentian Islands and take your first professional step, qualified to guide certified divers and assist instructors on courses. Working from the calm bays of Perhentian Kecil out to busy reefs and wrecks such as the Sugar Wreck and the Pinnacle (Tokong Laut), you build the stamina, judgement and dive-leadership skills that come from supervising real divers in real conditions.

What you’ll learn

• Lead and supervise certified divers on guided dives
• Assist a teaching instructor with students in confined and open water
• Conduct dive briefings, site assessments and risk management
• Demonstrate all 24 dive skills to a clear, repeatable standard
• Map a dive site and run search-and-recovery and rescue scenarios
• Apply dive theory to real-world dive planning and supervision

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification)
• PADI Rescue Diver certification
• Emergency First Response (primary and secondary care) within 24 months
• At least 40 logged dives to begin and 60 to certify
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Orientation and theory

   Programme overview, dive-theory study and the role and responsibilities of a Divemaster.
2. Day2
   Watermanship and skills

   Stamina assessments and polishing the 24 demonstration-quality skills in calm water off Long Beach.
3. Day3
   Practical workshops

   Dive-site mapping, deep and search-and-recovery scenarios on local reefs.
4. Day4
   Guiding internship

   Lead certified divers and assist instructors on dives to sites such as the Pinnacle and Sugar Wreck.
5. Day5
   Assessment and certification

   Final theory exams, rescue assessment and sign-off as a PADI Divemaster.
