Move from guiding divers to teaching them with the PADI Instructor Development Course in Hikkaduwa, on Sri Lanka's south coast. The calm, warm reef waters of this long-established dive town give instructor candidates a forgiving, controlled setting to rehearse confined- and open-water teaching presentations before they sit the independent Instructor Examination. You finish the IDC ready to certify divers of your own and join the worldwide community of PADI professionals.
The PADI IDC trains and assesses you against PADI standards, then prepares you for the Instructor Examination, which a PADI Examiner conducts independently. Passing the IE makes you a teaching member of PADI with a renewable instructor rating, access to professional insurance and the global PADI jobs network.
Teaching workshops use Hikkaduwa's sheltered house reef and coral-garden shallows. Calm conditions and warm 27-29°C water through the November-to-April west-coast season give candidates a low-stress place to rehearse confined- and open-water teaching. The Instructor Examination itself is run separately by a PADI Examiner at a designated location.
