Cross over from leading dives to teaching them with the PADI Instructor Development Course in the Seychelles, a granite-island archipelago in the Indian Ocean. Candidates rehearse teaching presentations in the calm, protected waters off Beau Vallon and refine open-water teaching on the boulder reefs and shallow coral gardens around Mahé before sitting the independent Instructor Examination. You finish the IDC ready to certify your own divers and work as a PADI professional worldwide.
The PADI IDC trains and assesses you against PADI standards, then prepares you for the Instructor Examination, which a PADI Examiner conducts independently. Passing the IE makes you a teaching member of PADI at the Open Water Scuba Instructor rating, with access to professional insurance and the PADI jobs network.
Teaching workshops use the sheltered bay at Beau Vallon, where calm-to-moderate conditions and 26-30C water make a forgiving classroom. Open-water presentations run on nearby granite-boulder sites such as the Coral Garden and Bay Ternay Marine Park. Conditions for teaching are best around April-May and September-November. The independent Instructor Examination is conducted separately by a PADI Examiner at a designated IE location.
