The PADI Open Water Diver course in Bohol Panglao is your entry into scuba, certifying you to dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres anywhere in the world. Panglao's calm, clear shallows off Alona Beach work well as a training classroom, and your first open-water dives then explore the warm reefs where turtles and schooling tropical fish are everyday sights.
The PADI Open Water Diver is the world's most recognised entry-level certification and never expires. It qualifies you to dive to 18 metres with a buddy and is the prerequisite for the Advanced Open Water course.
Confined-water training uses the calm, shallow water off Alona Beach. Open-water dives then explore Panglao's gently sloping house reefs at sites like Doljo, where warm 27-29C water and easy entries suit first-time divers. The December-to-May peak brings the best visibility for new divers.
