The PADI Open Water Diver course on the Perhentian Islands is the world's most popular entry-level certification, and the islands are one of the best-value places in South East Asia to earn it. Over theory, confined-water sessions and four open-water dives to 18 metres in the warm, calm bays off Long Beach and Coral Bay, you become a fully certified diver free to dive worldwide.
PADI Open Water Diver is recognised worldwide and certifies you to dive to 18 metres with a buddy without supervision. It is the foundation for all further PADI training, including Advanced Open Water and specialties.
Open Water training uses the sheltered, shallow bays off Long Beach and Coral Bay before moving to gentle local reefs, with warm water around 27-30°C and calm conditions through the March-to-October season, and turtles, reef sharks and clownfish common companions.
