Course overview

The PADI Open Water Diver course on Tioman is a globally recognised entry-level certification, qualifying you to dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres. With its calm, warm bays, shallow reefs and resident turtles and reef fish, Tioman is a comfortable place to learn, and you complete four open-water training dives at gentle sites such as the boulder reef off Renggis Island.

What you’ll learn

• Assemble, check and use all your scuba equipment
• Master over 20 essential skills including mask clearing and regulator recovery
• Achieve and control neutral buoyancy
• Plan dives with tables or a dive computer
• Respond to common problems and assist a buddy
• Dive independently with a buddy to a maximum of 18 metres

Prerequisites

• No prior certification required
• Minimum age 10 (Junior Open Water Diver) or 15
• Able to swim 200 metres and float/tread water for 10 minutes
• Completion of a standard diver medical questionnaire

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory and confined water

   Knowledge-development modules and the first confined-water skills sessions in a calm Tioman bay.
2. Day2
   Confined water and first dives

   Complete confined-water skills and the first two open-water training dives on a shallow reef.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives and exam

   Final two open-water dives at sites such as Renggis Island, sit the exam, then certify.
