The PADI Rescue Diver course makes you a more confident, self-aware diver who can prevent and manage problems for yourself and others. Practised in the calm, warm waters off Nilaveli and around Pigeon Island, the realistic rescue scenarios suit Trincomalee's settled east-coast conditions, where good visibility lets you focus on technique. Many divers call it the most demanding yet rewarding course they take.
PADI Rescue Diver is the prerequisite for the Divemaster course and counts toward the Master Scuba Diver rating. You need current Emergency First Response, or equivalent CPR and first-aid training, completed within the past 24 months.
Rescue skills and scenarios are practised in the sheltered Nilaveli bays and over the Pigeon Island Marine Park reefs. During the calm May-to-September window, with April and October still diveable on either side, the calm water gives forgiving conditions for realistic training.
