Course overview

Key Largo is one of the world's leading wreck-diving destinations, and the PADI Wreck Diver specialty puts you right on its famous artificial reefs. Diving structures such as the towering Spiegel Grove, you learn to survey wrecks, navigate around them safely and use lines and lights for limited penetration. You finish certified to explore shipwrecks with confidence and the proper techniques.

• Navigate around large structures and manage light loss
• Avoid entanglement and silt-out conditions
• Carry and deploy proper wreck-diving equipment

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15 (Junior available from 12 for shallower dives)
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
• Comfort with deeper dives recommended given wreck depths
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory and first wrecks

   Wreck-diving knowledge development, then the first dives surveying a Key Largo wreck and practising line work.
2. Day2
   Mapping and penetration

   Complete the mapping project and limited-penetration dives on the Spiegel Grove or a similar wreck, then certify.
