The SSI Basic Diver program on Koh Tao is your first real step into scuba, a guided introduction that goes beyond a single try-dive. You complete confined-water training and guided open-water dives to around 12 metres at calm sites like Japanese Gardens, building genuine skills you can later credit toward full SSI Open Water certification.
SSI Basic Diver is a supervised entry program delivered through MySSI. It develops more skill than a single try-dive and credits directly toward the full SSI Open Water Diver certification.
Training and guided dives use Koh Tao's sheltered shallow reefs like Japanese Gardens and Mango Bay, where calm 28-30C water suits first-time divers. Expect clownfish, parrotfish and butterflyfish; conditions are best March to May.
