SSI Basic Diver is a short entry-level programme that takes beginners beyond a single try-dive, combining confined-water training with guided open-water dives off Nilaveli. Over a couple of days you learn the core scuba skills under instructor supervision and dive the gentle reefs of Pigeon Island Marine Park, building a solid base you can later complete into full Open Water certification.
SSI Basic Diver is a supervised entry-level rating that you can upgrade to full SSI Open Water Diver by completing the remaining training dives and academics. It is delivered through the DiveSSI app.
Basic Diver training uses the calm shallows off Nilaveli for skills and the gentle reefs of Pigeon Island Marine Park for open-water dives. The settled water during the calm May-to-September window, with April and October still diveable on either side suits new divers.
