Course overview

Master easy control with the SSI Perfect Buoyancy specialty on Maafushi, well suited to hovering over the coral gardens of the South Malé Atoll. On the calm island house reef in warm 27-30°C water you dial in weighting, trim and breathing so you glide smoothly and use less air. It is one of the most useful skills you can add for every dive that follows.

What you’ll learn

• Find your ideal weighting and weight distribution
• Achieve flat, streamlined trim in the water
• Hover motionless using breathing alone
• Extend bottom time and reduce air consumption
• Move close to the reef without touching it
• Streamline equipment to cut drag

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior) or 15
• SSI Open Water Diver (or qualifying equivalent)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician
