Find out what scuba feels like with the SSI Try Scuba experience on Koh Tao, the planet's busiest dive-training island. After a simple briefing and shallow-water practice you make a guided open-water dive to around 12 metres at a gentle reef like Japanese Gardens, surrounded by clownfish and other tropical reef life.
SSI Try Scuba is an introductory experience rather than a certification. The skills can credit toward the SSI Open Water Diver course, and Koh Tao is one of the cheapest places in the world to continue your training.
First dives use Koh Tao's calm shallow reefs like Japanese Gardens and Mango Bay, where 28-30C water and easy entries suit beginners. Expect clownfish, parrotfish and butterflyfish; the clearest water is from March to May.
