Course overview

Step into the dive industry with the SSI Dive Guide and Divemaster path in Port Blair, learning to guide certified divers and assist on courses across Andaman waters. Training at the calm Chidiyatapu reefs and the wider Andaman Sea, you sharpen your skills to a demonstration standard and learn dive leadership through SSI's flexible, digital-first training system. The rating is your entry into the SSI professional community.

What you’ll learn

• Guide and supervise certified divers in open water
• Demonstrate core scuba skills to a professional standard
• Plan and lead guided dives and manage dive groups
• Conduct briefings, site assessments and dive logistics
• Support instructors during student training
• Apply dive-leadership theory to real operations

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent certification
• SSI Stress & Rescue (or equivalent rescue training)
• Valid first-aid and CPR provider rating
• Logged dives meeting SSI professional standards (around 40 to start, building through the course)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & assessments

   Work through SSI digital academics and complete the water-skills and stamina assessments.
2. Day2
   Demonstration skills

   Polish core scuba skills to demonstration standard in calm Andaman water.
3. Day3
   Site management

   Assess and brief a dive site at Chidiyatapu and practise leading divers in the water.
4. Day4
   Internship dives

   Assist on real training and guide certified divers across Andaman sites.
5. Day5
   Rescue & leadership

   Reinforce rescue skills and run dive-leadership and emergency scenarios.
6. Day6
   Final guiding

   Lead a guided dive and complete the final professional evaluations.
