Course overview

Build confident underwater navigation with the SSI Navigation specialty in Fiji, learning natural-reference and compass techniques around Beqa Lagoon and Pacific Harbour. Through SSI academics and open-water dives you practise reciprocal headings, distance estimation and search patterns on pinnacle and reef sites where navigation truly matters. It is a core building block toward the SSI Advanced Open Water rating.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate using natural underwater references
• Use a compass for headings and patterns
• Estimate distance with kick cycles and timing
• Execute square and other search patterns
• Relocate submerged points of interest
• Stay oriented in current and complex topography

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior) or 15
• SSI Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician where required

   Cover natural-reference navigation and distance estimation on a sheltered Beqa Lagoon reef.
2. Day2
   Compass & patterns

   Practise compass navigation and search patterns, then complete the SSI specialty evaluation.
