Course overview

The SSI Open Water Diver course in Alor earns you a globally recognised certification to dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres. Training pairs the SSI digital learning platform with confined-water skills and four open-water dives on Alor's sheltered reefs, where vivid coral and macro life such as nudibranchs and mandarinfish reward new divers.

What you’ll learn

• Assemble, use and care for scuba equipment
• Master all core skills including mask clearing and regulator recovery
• Achieve reliable neutral buoyancy
• Plan dives with a computer or tables
• Descend, ascend and complete safety stops to 18 metres
• Manage common problems and basic self-rescue

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (junior certification for younger divers)
• No prior experience required
• Able to demonstrate basic watermanship and comfort in water
• Able to complete a diver medical questionnaire
• Willingness to complete the digital theory

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & confined water

   Work through the SSI digital academics and practise all core skills in confined or shallow water.
2. Day2
   First open-water dives

   Apply your skills on your first two open-water dives at a sheltered Alor reef, building comfort at depth.
3. Day3
   Final dives & certification

   Complete your final two open-water dives, enjoying Alor's coral and macro life before certifying.
