Course overview

Become a certified diver with the SSI Open Water Diver course in Key Largo, learning in the warm, calm, clear waters of the Florida Keys. Through digital learning, confined-water sessions and four open-water dives on the protected John Pennekamp reefs, you build every core scuba skill and finish certified to dive to 18 metres worldwide. It is a great place to start your diving journey.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, use and maintain scuba gear
• Perform all essential underwater skills
• Equalise, clear the mask and recover the regulator
• Control buoyancy and manage air supply
• Plan dives with a computer
• Solve common problems and dive safely with a buddy

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• No prior certification required
• Able to swim and float comfortably
• Complete a diver medical questionnaire

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory and confined water

   Complete the SSI digital modules and the first confined-water skill sessions.
2. Day2
   Confined-water skills

   Finish the remaining confined-water dives and skill assessments.
3. Day3
   First open-water dives

   Open-water training dives one and two on a shallow Pennekamp reef such as Molasses Reef.
4. Day4
   Final dives and certification

   Open-water dives three and four, final skill assessment and certification.
