Course overview

Earn your SSI Open Water Diver certification in Muscat, a globally recognised entry-level qualification gained in Oman's warm, clear coastal water. Through SSI's flexible digital learning you complete the theory, confined-water sessions and four open-water dives at Bandar Khayran and the Daymaniyat Islands, which qualifies you to dive with a buddy to 18 metres worldwide. It opens the way to Oman's reefs, turtles and seasonal whale sharks.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, check and use a complete scuba kit
• Master core skills such as mask clearing and regulator recovery
• Achieve neutral buoyancy and control descents and ascents
• Plan dives with a computer within no-decompression limits
• Manage common problems and share air with a buddy
• Dive independently with a buddy to a maximum of 18 metres

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior version 10-14)
• Able to swim and be comfortable in water
• No prior certification or experience required
• Complete the diver medical questionnaire

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory

   Complete the SSI online learning modules and assessments at your own pace.
2. Day2
   Confined-water skills

   Practise all core scuba skills in confined water at a sheltered Muscat site.
3. Day3
   First open-water dives

   Apply your skills on two open-water dives at a Bandar Khayran reef.
4. Day4
   Final dives & certification

   Complete the final two open-water dives, possibly at the Daymaniyat Islands, then certify as an Open Water Diver.
