Course overview

Become a certified diver with the SSI Open Water Diver course in Phuket, an internationally recognised entry-level qualification to dive with a buddy to 18 metres. Learning in the warm Andaman Sea on sheltered reefs such as Kata and Racha Yai, you progress through digital theory, confined-water skills and four open-water dives at your own pace. No prior experience is needed.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, use and care for scuba equipment
• Master core skills including mask clearing and regulator recovery
• Achieve neutral buoyancy and controlled ascents and descents
• Plan dives with a computer or tables
• Manage common problems and air-sharing
• Dive to 18 metres with a certified buddy

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior)
• No prior experience or certification required
• Comfortable in water and able to swim
• Reasonable health and a completed medical questionnaire

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory and first skills

   Work through the MySSI digital academics, then begin confined-water skill sessions in calm, shallow water.
2. Day2
   Confined water and first dives

   Complete confined-water skills and the first two open-water training dives on a sheltered reef.
3. Day3
   Final dives and certification

   Complete the remaining open-water dives at Racha Yai or Kata and certify as an SSI Open Water Diver.
