Course overview

Get your SSI Open Water Diver certification in the Solomon Islands and earn a globally recognised licence to dive independently among the Pacific's healthy reefs and WWII wrecks. Through SSI's flexible digital learning and four open-water training dives around Guadalcanal and Munda, in warm 27-30°C water, you learn the core skills of scuba. You certify to a depth of 18 metres.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, use and care for scuba equipment
• Clear your mask, recover your regulator and monitor air
• Master neutral buoyancy and controlled ascents and descents
• Plan dives with a computer and dive within limits
• Solve common problems and navigate underwater
• Dive safely with a buddy to a maximum of 18 metres

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior Open Water Diver)
• No prior certification required
• Able to swim and stay comfortable in the water
• Complete a diver medical questionnaire (physician sign-off if needed)

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory & confined water

   Work through the SSI digital materials and practise core skills in calm, shallow confined water.
2. Day2
   Open-water dives 1-2

   Apply your skills on the first two open-water training dives on a sheltered Guadalcanal reef.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives 3-4 & assessment

   Complete the final two training dives near Munda, finish the SSI assessment and certify.
