The SSI Open Water Diver course certifies you to dive to 18 metres with a buddy and is recognised worldwide. Trincomalee's calm, warm east-coast water is ideal for learning, with confined-water skills off Nilaveli and four training dives on the gentle reefs of Pigeon Island Marine Park, where turtles, reef fish and corals make your first dives memorable.
SSI Open Water Diver certifies you to dive to 18 metres with a buddy worldwide, with no expiry, and is delivered through the flexible DiveSSI digital platform. It leads on to SSI Advanced Adventurer.
Training uses the calm Nilaveli shallows for confined skills and the gentle reefs of Pigeon Island Marine Park for the four open-water dives. The settled water during the calm May-to-September window, with April and October still diveable on either side, at 28-30C, suits beginners.
