Course overview

Already started your Open Water training at home? The SSI Referral programme lets you complete your open-water training dives in Malta and Gozo, finishing your certification in clear, calm Mediterranean water rather than a cold local quarry. You arrive with academics and confined-water skills done, then complete the required open-water dives to 18 metres and certify on the islands.

What you’ll learn

• Apply previously learned skills in open water
• Demonstrate mask clearing, regulator recovery and buoyancy
• Plan and execute dives within no-decompression limits
• Navigate and manage buddy procedures
• Build confidence for independent diving to 18 metres

Prerequisites

• Completed SSI (or recognised) academic and confined-water training within referral validity
• Valid referral paperwork from your home instructor
• Minimum age 10 (junior) or 15 for full certification
• Completed medical questionnaire (physician sign-off if indicated)

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Open-water dives 1-2

   Review referral paperwork, then complete the first open-water training dives at a sheltered Gozo or Cirkewwa bay.
2. Day2
   Open-water dives 3-4

   Finish the remaining training dives to 18 metres, skills assessment and certification.
