Course overview

Explore submerged structures with the SSI Wreck Diving specialty at Sipadan, learning survey, mapping and navigation around the artificial reefs and sunken hulls near Mabul Island. SSI's flexible specialty teaches you to dive wrecks safely while you watch frogfish, lionfish and schooling fish reclaim the wreckage. It is an absorbing addition to the macro-rich diving of this Sabah dive region.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute safe wreck dives
• Survey and sketch a basic wreck map
• Deploy reels and guidelines for navigation
• Recognise and avoid wreck hazards and silt-outs
• Apply limited-penetration techniques on intact wrecks
• Manage gas, depth and orientation around structures

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15 (or 10 for Junior, with limits)
• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Comfortable buoyancy and navigation skills
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

   Mapping and certification
