Course overview

The PADI Deep Diver specialty on Koh Tao extends your range to 40 metres, where pinnacle sites like Chumphon Pinnacle and Sail Rock drop into open blue water visited by big schools and the occasional whale shark. Over four dives you learn to plan deep profiles, manage gas and recognise narcosis at depth.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute dives to a maximum of 40 metres
• Manage air consumption and no-decompression limits at depth
• Recognise and respond to nitrogen narcosis
• Use specialised equipment for deeper diving
• Plan safety stops and contingency gas
• Handle colour loss and reduced light at depth

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water (or equivalent)
• Comfort with the deep adventure dive recommended
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & planning

   Cover deep-diving theory, gas management and narcosis recognition before the first dives.
2. Day1
   Dives toward 30m

   Complete the first two training dives building toward 30 metres at a pinnacle such as Chumphon Pinnacle.
3. Day2
   Dives toward 40m

   Make two deeper dives toward the 40-metre limit, practising narcosis checks and contingency planning at Sail Rock or Chumphon.
