Course overview

PADI Discover Scuba Diving is a first taste of breathing underwater, with no certification required, that takes complete beginners into the calm, warm shallows off Nilaveli. Under an instructor's direct supervision you learn a few basic skills in confined water, then make a guided dive to around 12 metres on the gentle reefs of Pigeon Island Marine Park, where colourful reef fish and corals make a memorable introduction.

What you’ll learn

• Breathe comfortably underwater on scuba
• Equalise your ears as you descend
• Clear water from your mask and recover a regulator
• Move and control yourself underwater
• Communicate with basic hand signals
• Dive safely under direct instructor supervision

Prerequisites

• No experience or swimming certification required
• Minimum age 10
• Reasonable general health (a brief medical questionnaire applies)
• Comfortable getting your face in the water

   After a friendly briefing and skill practice in the shallows off Nilaveli, make your first guided dive to around 12 metres over the Pigeon Island reefs with your instructor.
