Course overview

Build the confidence to act in an emergency with the PADI Emergency First Response course in Komodo, covering primary and secondary care on land or in the water. This is a non-diving course taken in the classroom, and it is the standard first-aid and CPR qualification that meets the prerequisite for PADI Rescue Diver and professional ratings. It is useful preparation before you take on Komodo's more demanding current dives.

What you’ll learn

• Perform CPR and rescue breathing on an adult
• Manage a non-breathing patient and use of an AED
• Control serious bleeding and treat for shock
• Conduct primary (life-threatening) and secondary care assessments
• Manage spinal injuries and the use of barriers to reduce contamination
• Build the readiness to respond calmly in a real emergency

Prerequisites

• No prior experience or certification required
• Open to non-divers and divers alike
• No minimum diving age (suitable for all levels)
• Willingness to practise hands-on CPR and first-aid skills

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Primary care

   Learn and practise CPR, rescue breathing, AED use and serious-bleeding management.
2. Day2
   Secondary care and assessment

   Practise first-aid assessments, injury and illness care, then complete the skills evaluation and certification.
