The PADI Instructor Development Course on the west coast of Mauritius takes you from leading dives to teaching them. You train out of Flic-en-Flac, using its sheltered lagoon for confined-water teaching and forgiving reef sites like Aquarium and the walls of Cathedral for open-water workshops. Instructor candidates rehearse every teaching presentation in calm 23-28C water before sitting the independent Instructor Examination. You finish ready to certify divers of your own and to join the global community of PADI professionals.
The PADI IDC trains and assesses you against PADI standards, then prepares you for the Instructor Examination, which a PADI Examiner conducts independently. Pass the IE and you become a teaching member of PADI with a renewable instructor rating, access to professional insurance and the worldwide PADI jobs network.
Confined-water teaching uses the sheltered Flic-en-Flac lagoon. Open-water workshops run at calm west-coast reefs such as Aquarium and the cavern-and-wall topography of Cathedral, and the November-to-April high season gives the most settled seas. The independent Instructor Examination is conducted separately by a PADI Examiner.
