Course overview

Move from leading dives to teaching them with the PADI Instructor Development Course in Raja Ampat, part of the Coral Triangle and one of the most biodiverse reef systems on the planet. Candidates rehearse teaching presentations in the calm shallows around Mansuar Island, then practise open-water teaching on current-swept sites such as Cape Kri and Sardine Reef. You finish ready to sit the Instructor Examination and certify divers of your own through this PADI dive course.

The PADI Instructor / IDC pathway

The PADI IDC trains and assesses you against PADI standards, then prepares you for the Instructor Examination, which a PADI Examiner conducts independently. Once you pass the IE, you become a teaching member of PADI with a renewable Open Water Scuba Instructor rating, professional insurance access and the PADI jobs network.

Where you'll dive in Raja Ampat

Teaching practice mixes the sheltered lagoons and reefs near Mansuar Island with Dampier Strait sites such as Cape Kri and Sardine Reef. Water sits at 27-30°C and tidal currents run strong in the October-to-April peak season, which gives a realistic setting to train and assess teaching skills.
