Course overview

Become a teaching professional with the SSI Open Water Instructor program in Raja Ampat, among the richest reefs of the Coral Triangle. Candidates build teaching presentations in the calm waters near Mansuar Island, then refine open-water instruction on current sites such as Cape Kri and Blue Magic. You graduate from this SSI dive course ready to certify your own students within the SSI system.

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Divemaster or equivalent leadership certification from another recognised agency
• Certified diver for at least 6 months
• Logged dives meeting SSI Instructor prerequisites (typically 100)
• Current first aid and CPR provider rating
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Teaching foundations

   Orientation to the SSI system and digital platform with your first academic presentations.
2. Day2
   Confined-water workshops

   Practise demonstrating and teaching skills in the calm shallows around Mansuar Island.
3. Day3
   Open-water teaching

   Deliver open-water teaching presentations and skill circuits under trainer evaluation.
4. Day4
   Standards and risk management

   Work through SSI standards, risk management and briefings for high-current sites.
5. Day5
   Theory and rescue assessment

   Complete dive-theory exams and the rescue assessment to instructor standard.
6. Day6
   Evaluation preparation

   Mock teaching evaluations and final briefing for the SSI Instructor Evaluation.
