Course overview

The PADI Wreck Diver specialty on Koh Tao centres on the HTMS Sattakut, a former navy vessel scuttled as an artificial reef and one of the best wrecks in the Gulf of Thailand. Across four dives you learn safe wreck-diving techniques while groupers, batfish and barracuda patrol the decks.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute safe wreck dives within recreational limits
• Survey a wreck and map its layout and hazards
• Use reels and lines to lay a safe path of return
• Manage buoyancy and trim to avoid silt-outs and entanglement
• Understand the special hazards of wreck penetration
• Recognise the marine life that colonises artificial reefs

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water (or equivalent)
• Deep Diver specialty recommended for the deeper wreck profiles
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & wreck planning

   Cover wreck-diving hazards, reel and line use and survey techniques in the classroom before kitting up.
2. Day1
   Wreck dives 1-2

   Make your first two dives on the HTMS Sattakut, surveying the exterior and mapping the structure.
3. Day2
   Wreck dives 3-4

   Complete two further dives practising reel and line work and controlled approaches to the wreck.
