Course overview

Earn the PADI Wreck Diver specialty in Papua New Guinea, a region scattered with WWII shipwrecks and reef-draped hulls. Diving sites such as a sunken WWII-era vessel that now sits in deeper water full of marine life, you learn to survey, navigate and safely explore wrecks while respecting their fragility and history. The certification opens up Papua New Guinea's wreck diving with proper technique.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and conduct safe wreck dives within recreational limits
• Survey and map a wreck to record its layout
• Navigate the exterior of a wreck using a reference line
• Avoid hazards such as sharp edges, silt-out and entanglement
• Use a penetration line and light for limited overhead awareness
• Understand the historical and ecological value of wreck sites

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water (or qualifying certification)
• Comfort with the depths involved (typically to 30 m)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

   Wreck-diving planning, hazard awareness and an orientation dive surveying a local wreck.
2. Day2
   Mapping & navigation

   Map the wreck and practise reference-line navigation around its exterior, then certify.
