Course overview

Take your first breaths underwater with the SSI Try Scuba experience in Hikkaduwa, on Sri Lanka's calm south coast. With an instructor at your side you learn a few simple skills in shallow water before exploring the sheltered house reef, home to turtles, octopuses and colourful reef fish. No certification or prior experience is needed, which makes it an easy and memorable introduction to diving.

The SSI Discover Scuba pathway

SSI Try Scuba is an introductory experience rather than a certification, recorded in the SSI app. The skills you complete can later credit toward the SSI Open Water Diver course if you continue your training.

Where you'll dive in Hikkaduwa

The dive takes place on Hikkaduwa's sheltered house reef in around 12 metres, where warm 27-29°C water and frequent turtle and reef-fish sightings make a good first scuba experience.
