Course overview

The SSI Dive Guide and Divemaster ratings are your first professional credentials, and you can earn them on the sheltered west coast of Mauritius. Operating from Flic-en-Flac, you develop dive-leadership and guiding skills at reef sites such as Aquarium, Cathedral and Snake Reef while learning to lead certified divers and assist instructors. You graduate ready to work as an SSI dive professional worldwide.

What you’ll learn

• Plan, brief and guide certified divers in open water
• Demonstrate dive skills to professional standard
• Lead site orientation, mapping and group management at local reefs
• Assist SSI instructors with student divers
• Apply SSI standards, dive theory and risk management
• Complete watermanship, stamina and rescue assessments

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent certification
• SSI Diver Stress & Rescue (or equivalent rescue training)
• Current React Right or equivalent first-aid and CPR within 24 months
• Logged dive count meeting SSI Dive Guide requirements (typically 40+)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory

   Work through SSI dive theory and the role of the dive professional on the SSI app.
2. Day2
   Watermanship and skills

   Stamina assessments and demonstration-quality skill practice in the lagoon.
3. Day3
   Mapping and guiding

   Map and lead a guided dive at a local reef such as Aquarium or Snake Reef.
4. Day4
   Leadership workshops

   Group management, search and emergency scenarios in open water.
5. Day5
   Internship

   Assist an SSI instructor with real students in confined and open water.
6. Day6
   Assessment and certification

   Final evaluations, debrief and SSI Divemaster certification.
