Course overview

The SSI Open Water Instructor programme at Nusa Penida certifies you to train and certify divers across the SSI system. Indonesia's challenging Nusa waters, from the drift of Toyapakeh to the cold Mola Mola thermoclines of Crystal Bay, give candidates a realistic classroom for sharpening teaching presentations and current-aware risk management before the Instructor Evaluation. You finish ready to deliver SSI programmes worldwide.

What you’ll learn

• Deliver academic, confined-water and open-water teaching presentations the SSI way
• Apply SSI standards, the SSI Training System and digital learning tools
• Demonstrate, evaluate and correct student skills to instructor standard
• Manage diver risk and brief groups in current-prone open water
• Run sessions to SSI and dive-centre operating standards
• Prepare fully for the SSI Instructor Evaluation

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Divemaster or Dive Guide, or an equivalent leadership rating from another agency
• Certified diver for at least 6 months
• Logged dives meeting SSI prerequisites (typically 100 by evaluation)
• Current EFR / CPR and first-aid provider rating
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   SSI system orientation

   Introduction to the SSI Training System, digital tools and your first academic teaching presentations.
2. Day2
   Confined-water workshops

   Practise demonstrating and teaching skills in sheltered shallows to SSI standard.
3. Day3
   Open-water teaching

   Run open-water teaching circuits under evaluation at protected sites like Sental and Sampalan.
4. Day4
   Standards & risk management

   Cover SSI standards, drift-current risk management and dive-business essentials.
5. Day5
   Theory & rescue assessment

   Complete dive-theory exams and the rescue assessment to instructor standard.
6. Day6
   Evaluation preparation

   Mock presentations and a full briefing before the SSI Instructor Evaluation.
