Course overview

Become a certified diver with the SSI Open Water Diver course in Komodo, qualifying you to dive to 18 metres worldwide. You learn core skills in calm water using SSI's flexible digital learning, then apply them on gentle park reefs like Siaba Besar where turtles glide through the shallows. You finish ready to explore the reefs of Komodo and beyond.

What you’ll learn

• Set up and use scuba equipment confidently
• Clear your mask, recover your regulator and monitor air
• Achieve neutral buoyancy and good trim
• Plan and execute dives with a buddy
• Handle common problems and ascend safely
• Apply your skills on real Komodo reef dives

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (junior certification; depth limits apply under 15)
• Able to swim and comfortable in water
• No prior diving experience required
• Diver medical questionnaire (physician sign-off if any condition applies)

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory and confined water

   Work through the MySSI learning and practise the core skills in calm, confined water.
2. Day2
   First open-water dives

   Apply your skills on the first two training dives at sheltered park reefs like Siaba Besar.
3. Day3
   Final dives and certification

   Complete the remaining training dives and certify as an SSI Open Water Diver.
