Course overview

The SSI Open Water Diver course earns you a globally recognised certification on Mauritius's sheltered west coast. Over three to four days from Flic-en-Flac, you learn core skills in the calm lagoon and complete open-water training dives to 18 metres on reefs like Aquarium and Snake Reef among turtles and reef fish. SSI's digital theory lets you study before you arrive and spend more of your trip diving.

• Plan and dive to 18 metres
• Master mask clearing, regulator recovery and air sharing
• Achieve neutral buoyancy and safe ascents
• Apply core surface and underwater skills
• Dive independently with a certified buddy

Prerequisites

• No certification required (entry-level course)
• Minimum age 10 (Junior) or 15 for full certification
• Basic swimming ability and water comfort
• Able to complete a medical questionnaire (clearance if any condition applies)

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory and confined water

   Complete the SSI digital theory and first confined-water skill sessions in the calm Flic-en-Flac lagoon.
2. Day2
   Open-water dives 1 and 2

   First two open-water training dives on a shallow west-coast reef.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives 3 and 4

   Final training dives to 18 metres at sites like Aquarium or Snake Reef, then certification.
