The SSI Open Water Diver course in Rasdhoo Atoll earns you a globally recognised diving licence. Warm 27-30°C water, visibility above 25 metres and sheltered reefs make for a good classroom. Across about four days you progress from digital theory and confined-water skills to real open-water dives, and you finish certified to dive to 18 metres with a buddy anywhere in the world.
SSI Open Water Diver certifies you to dive to 18 metres with a buddy and is recognised worldwide to ISO standards. SSI delivers theory through its free digital platform, so you can study before arrival and complete more dives during your trip; the certification is stored digitally for life.
Training begins in the sheltered shallows beside the island and progresses to calm reef sites such as Three Palm and Holhi Faru, where clear water and frequent turtle and reef-shark sightings make the open-water dives memorable. The November-to-April season offers the steadiest conditions for learning.
