Get a recognised entry-level qualification with the SSI Scuba Diver course out of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. Over a few days you complete core digital academics, confined-water skills and two supervised open-water dives in sheltered Galapagos shallows visited by sea lions and turtles, qualifying you to dive to 12 metres with an SSI professional. It is a flexible step toward full Open Water certification.
SSI Scuba Diver is a recognised entry-level rating allowing supervised diving to 12 metres. It is a partial completion of the Open Water Diver programme and upgrades to full SSI Open Water Diver once the remaining academics and dives are finished.
Training uses sheltered, low-current sites near Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz, such as Santa Fe and the calm bays where sea lions and green turtles gather. These protected shallows suit a first certification, away from the archipelago's stronger currents.
